Action anime fans loved Gintama not only for its humor but for its various powerful characters as well. Gintama was a hilarious anime that deservedly ran for eight seasons. Fans were very disappointed when they learned it was about to end. 10. Okita Sougo.

Okita Sougo is the 1st Division Captain of the Shinsengumi, and was a trainee at Kondou Isao's dojo in his youth. He is the younger brother of Okita Mitsuba who raised him after their parents passed away.


Sougo is a genius swordsman and the strongest in Shinsengumi. He has shown incredible strength with his sword during the Rokkaku Arc, eradicating many Jouishishi members while deflecting sniper bullets with only two swords.

Kagura is a member of the Yorozuya and the main female protagonist of Gintama. She is a member of the Yato Tribe, the daughter of Umibouzu and Koka, and the younger sister of Kamui, one of the main antagonists of the series.

The Yato blood gave Kagura extreme strength, which couldn't be compared to humans. While Gintoki was powerful, fans could also see how many times Kagura showcased her physical power. She could stop speeding cars, lift heavy weights, and beat almost everyone in hand-to-hand combat

7. Kamui .

Kamui is a member of the Yato Tribe. He is the son of Umibouzu and Kouka, and the elder brother of Kagura. He is a major antagonist of Yoshiwara in Flames Arc and later after his alliance with Takasugi, becomes one of the main aOne of the elites among the Yato race,

5. Umibouzu

Umibouzu is a renowned alien-hunter or 'Alien Buster' in the universe. His real name is Kankou , and he is the father of Kamui and Kagura. The nickname Umibouzu, which literally means the sea of star (galaxy) monk, is given to him in honour of his fighting prowess.


Umibozu was the highest elite Yato, which meant only two people, Kamui and Housen could pick a fair fight with him. When Kamui attacked him, he lost an arm but still could beat his son after he lost control over his instincts and would have killed him if Kagura wasn’t there.

4. Kotaro Katsura 

Katsura Kotarou is the leader of a moderate Joui faction and a fugitive wanted by the authorities. He is also proficient in the art of escape from the Shinsengumi (formerly), penitentiaries and explosives.


It is shown that Gintoki, Katsura and Takasugi are mostly equal in strength and are highly-skilled samurai with wits on their side. It is implied they are slightly stronger than Katsura. 

3. Shinsuke Takasugi 

Takasugi Shinsuke was the leader of the Kiheitai, an extremist Joui faction and a wanted fugitive. He was the main recurring antagonist in Gintama before the appearance of Utsuro, later becoming Gintoki's ally again.


He was the sly, charismatic leader of the Kiheitai who not only wanted to exact revenge on Gintoki for a mistake long ago but also wanted to burn down the whole world. ... He is an equal to Gintoki when it comes to strength and skill but more than rivals him when it comes to ruthlessness.

Gintoki Sakata is the protagonist in the manga and anime franchise Gin Tama created by Hideaki Sorachi. Gintoki is the protagonist of the series and his name serves as part of the basis of the series' title.
